the king

August 16, 2012

Elvis Presley died 35 years ago today, and on this day I am reminded of one of my favorite childhood moments. I went to Vacation Bible School exactly once as a child, when my sister and I were spending the week with my grandmother. I was probably about 10 years old, which would have made my sister 5. One of the craft activities we had to do was puff-paint some t-shirts with the phrase “Jesus Is Our King” stenciled on them. My sister, after hearing the assignment, very earnestly asked if she could please change hers to “Elvis Is Our King.”

I was a pretty proud big sister at that moment…
