that mercury sound’s first official endorsement

June 18, 2011

Prepare yourself world. This highly influential and important blog is about to make its first official endorsement. After some serious round table discussion [in my head] the editorial board [me] has decided to make an official endorsement in the Rolling Stone magazine Choose the Cover contest. The contest has been going on since February and 16 bands have been whittled down to the final two, but these guys have been my #1 since the very beginning. So here it is, the official endorsement:

Vote for The Sheepdogs y’all!

The Sheepdogs, four hairy dudes from Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada, pump out an old school style of hard hitting blues rock that is just straight timeless. They’ve got the chops and a clear appreciation for the Led Zeppelins, Allman Brothers, and Foghats of rock’s golden past. They’re also pretty hilarious, check out this faux “attack ad” they created to enlist support in the cover contest.

I love Rolling Stone at least as much as the next person but let’s be real here – after all the Justin Bieber and Jonas Brothers covers of late they need a good old fashioned Rock & Roll Band gracing their hallowed cover again. The winner of this contest will be the first unsigned artist to ever land “on the cover of the Rolling Stone” and they’ll also land a contract with Atlantic Records – which would be great because I personally want to hear A LOT more from these guys. Voting closes on July 1 so vote now and support great new music!
