the waiting is the hardest the part

April 17, 2010

Tom Petty Live in ConcertTom Petty & The Heartbreakers have pushed back the release of their forthcoming Mojo album from May 18 to June 5 and consequently have also rerouted their summer tour. It looks like I’ll have to wait until September to see my favorite live band. Ah well, a reroute is definitely better than a full on cancel. However, I may start snooping on places other than Texas to catch his show this summer… Omaha? Winnipeg? Milwaukie? The pushback of the album release date is definitely disappointing but the silver lining here is that it’s spreading the wealth around. To have their new album AND the reissue of Exile on Main Street drop on the same day might have honestly been too much for me to handle. Now I won’t have to call in sick to work just to stay home and play them both a million times :) Here’s the official announcement from TP & the HB’s:

Due to a delay in the arrival of Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers’ new album Mojo, it was announced today that the first 10 dates of the 2010 summer tour will be rescheduled in September and October.

The album will be released on Reprise Records on June 15. The band sincerely regrets any inconvenience caused and hope fans can make the rescheduled dates which are listed below.

Additionally, the tour will add additional dates including a second show at the Wachovia Center in Philadelphia on August 1 and others to be announced shortly. Further information for all additional shows including Highway Companions Club Presale information, will be announced soon, well before the show dates.

Look at the bright side — at least this way they’ll be sharp from the tour and not still warming up!
